2017, 300 pages, 46 color plates, maps, drawings. Cerambycidae of Canada and Alaska is a comprehensive treatment of approximately 400 cerambycid species. The book includes English and French keys to all subfamilies, genera, and species as well as distribution maps, host plant information, and excellent photographs of a majority of the included taxa. Authors reviewed existing literature and examined more than 100,000 specimens from numerous institutions and private collections to compile data on host plants and activity periods. This volume expands upon the Checklist of Beetles of Canada and Alaska, Bousquet, et al., (3413).

The book begins with an introduction to the taxonomy and nomenclature of the family, summarizing the major contributions of North American cerambycid taxonomists. A brief introduction to cerambycid anatomy and biology is included to provide clarification of potentially confusing terminology.

Keys to subfamilies are followed by keys to genera in each subfamily. After each generic key, overviews of the natural history and distribution of species in that subfamily follow, including keys to species and subspecies. Many of the species treated are also found in the lower 48 U.S. states. Coleopterists working in the northern U.S. will find these keys useful in specimen identification.

This excellent resource to identify and understand the natural history and distribution of longhorned beetles covers a region not fully treated by other North American identification guides. It is a valuable addition to the libraries of both experienced and beginning Coleopterists. Spectacular photographs and useful keys to the wood borers make the book a highly recommended reference. Hardcover.
