Initial sections  include newly revised illustrated keys to subfamilies and genera. Main body of the book is a systematic treatment of the 118 species of ants recorded from Ohio plus an additional 60 species possibly occurring in the state. Inclusion of these additional species increases the utility of this work in areas outside of Ohio.

Each generic account includes notes on identification, immatures, taxonomy, and newly revised keys to all included species. Each species account includes synonymy, notes on identification, taxonomy, ecology (including habitat, food resources, associates, and behavior), nests (including colony organization and reproductives), range, and distribution. A distribution map for each species is provided along with illustrations for many of the included species. Paperback; 8-1/2 x 11".
